“Discipline is a bad word in our culture. People associate it with having to do what we’re told. But discipline is quite a lovely word. It comes from the same root as disciple, and it means seeing yourself through the eyes of the teacher who loves you” — Marion Woodman
There are several places within the bible that indicate to us just how much we are loved. If we believe that we are created by God then He knows every little bit of us. Psalm 139:13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body, and knit them together in my mother’s womb. Luke 12:7 And He knows the number of hairs on your head!…
He also knows every word and every thought before it’s even pondered or uttered. 1Chronicles 28:9 …for the Lord sees every heart and understands and knows every thought. … Psalm 139 – ‘O Lord, You have examined my heart and know everything about me.’… He knows us so well and loves us regardless of all that we feel are our faults.
The Bible also says that He made us in His own image. If God knows every little bit of us in our existence and we are made in His image then we also need to strive towards knowing ourselves as He does, to the best of our ability. If, in His image, we are not moving towards knowing ourselves to the best of our ability, are we fulfilling the destiny He has given us?
